This is Howie Dewitt:
For the really reals…
How we do it.
Play the Game…
Two parts.
Part 1. The Program. (You’re like a computer…)
Part 2. The Game of Self… which comes later.
We use the programs we’ve installed to move ourselves around the game board, some moves being possible to/for us, others not.
Some moves we think we’re good at, and others we’ve convinced ourselves we’re not good at.
Cryptic, maybe.
On purpose? Yep.
Keep going, Dude…
In order (there’s that phrase again) to understand how you’re doing it, we need to move through part 1. and part 2. in the appropriate order… so it makes sense later when you do the doing… do the thing intentionally.
Our concern here is the first part: once you understand it, you can apply it, intentionally… and then you can dewitt or dooooo eeeeet; however you wanna…
Part 1. The Program…
You are like a computer.
You have the hardware, the software, like an operating system; you’ve got programs, apps, and peripherals.
- Hardware… more like “wetware,” but who’s counting? This is your physical body…
- Software… the information and the processing of it, which uses an elector-chemical system to operate the machinery that is the hardware.
- OS – your “current” operating system… this houses, or contains, and essentially “dictates” what all the others can do, when they do it, how, etc. Think Pilot, Co-pilot, and Navigator – all the peeps and instrumentation in the cockpit – cockpit. Humans, I tell ya 1
- Programs… think email client like Gmail or Outlook… Zoom, Chrome/Safari/Firedaog, or whatever… you know, the big standalon-ish programs on your computer and/or phone…
- Apps… these are smaller, more specific programs… context-dependent or environmental specific…
- Peripherals – everything that makes you that is not contained within your “being.” An example would be your dog, your car, your home… things that are “you” but connected to you like a keyboard or speakers or something… still you, but “extra.” (Yes, in this context, THAT kind of “extra.”
You also have a source code that your operating system is built on top of; think Mac, PC, or Linux…
…upon which sits your “current” OS.
This source code, or base code if you prefer (we’ll ascribe a specific definition to the language as we move forward…), contains within it specific code that is basically unaffected by changes at the OS or other software levels.
This is what actually needs to be addressed… your Source Code.
Whether you’re aware of it or not, you are, in fact, a developer… a coder… a programmer.
Programming yourself is one of those skills or abilities you picked up and may not realize, or like, you have an expertise in something and then got amnesia… and like the Bajau people 2, have adapted to being underwater and can dive deeper than the rest of us…
We all have spent thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of years becoming adept at programming ourselves.
The reality of it is that you are simply wired to do this thing, program yourself, that is.
What we need to do, specifically for the “changes” we want to make but can’t quite seem to make or get to stick, is fiddlefuck around with our base code or source code.
Don’t worry, it’s not as scary as tinkering with the root on an Android phone in 2015… or even having to deal with updating Windows (Fuckers.), and you can’t really “brick” yourself like this…
What we’re talking about here is more like updating WordPress (the platform this and like 43% of all websites on the internet are built on) or updating the “plugins” WP uses…
Or, the most apt analogy is to literally defrag your C: Drive and then overwrite your disc… or reformat it… sounds complicated, but it’s not; that’s just part of the “trick.”
(*AUTHORS NOTE – I’d imagine you have enough understanding about computers in general to comprehend everything I just said; if not, each one of those “things” above is linked to a page that explains them thoroughly… even though the links aren’t blue.)
And then, AND THEN…
Updating the specific programs and apps you’ve been fucking around with for years trying to “fix” whatever “glitch” you perceive to be the culprit…
That “thing” that seems to be keeping you from getting/having what you want…
Or getting you what you don’t want, as it were.
Programming. Stories. Self-talk, inner dialog… and for the sake of our BS meters, let’s throw in mantras, affirmations, positive thinking… old ones like chants and incantations, rituals, prayers, spells, even…
And, for good measure, we’ll include the new ones, directions, processes, discipline, organizational habits, straight-line… and umpteen more.
Holyshitballs, it’s like everyone calls “It” something different…
Yep, we’re all talkin’ about the same thing… from different points of reference on the spectrum of being human.
We’ll unpack that whole brain puzzle later and need to turn an entire rabbit hole inside out to do so.
For now, let’s keep rolling.
We’ll use two terms for this “thing” we’re discussing from here on out: the first is “Instructions.” We’ll also call these (Instructions) “programs”…
And we’ll use those two main terms to denote this main difference:
- Instructions are what you choose, design, craft, and apply… (reality test) to replace or overwrite your current “programs.”
- Program, or “programs,” are what those Instructions become once you’ve automated them… turned them into behaviors, which we’ll refer to as “bein-haved.”
Acting as a “programmer” ( AND being consciously aware of your doing so), we’re going to require a certain set of “privileges” in order to work ON the system, not just IN the system…
A simple way to understand this is what’s often referred to as “God mode.”…
However, we need to break that down a little. To understand what we mean.
We’re actually going to borrow some, but not all, of the definitions for that term – from the two main arenas it’s used in, and then we’re going to add a little sumpin’ sumpin’ – remember, we’re using a metaphor… might as well craft it to fix exactly the way we want, right?
In computer terms (Particularly PC), it’s called God Mode, which allows you access to all system settings in one place… a common misconception is that God mode on computers gives you access to system settings NOT available to the normal user. However, it is something that we can do…
In gaming, god mode is a term used in video games to describe a cheat code that makes a player invincible.
The name comes from the phrase “playing god,” which refers to someone who is nearly invulnerable.
God mode has been a classic “cheat” in gaming for decades. Players can activate god mode by entering a cheat code (also an interesting notion…).
In the gaming community, “God Mode” is commonly represented by iddqd… which stands for “id Delta Q Delta” – a made-up fraternity… anywho, we can dig into the history lesson of that another time and discuss any of the geeky controversy surrounding it at then.
Real quick like, notice the punctuation regarding “GodMode” as it’s used above, which comes from the common usage in those circles…
Onward.
Now, we’re going to borrow a little from the computer dorks, a bit from the gaming nerds, and add a little sumpin’ sumpin’ of our own, take away a bit that doesn’t serve us and (notice the term here…) construct our own version of that term, give it a specific definition that has clarity around it, and then we’ll add a style to it so we can call it our own.
- + From the computer wizz’es we’ll borrow the ability to access all system settings in one place.
- + From the gaming geniuses, we’ll borrow the concept of using GodMode in order to be up-leveled to an invulnerable state.
- + As well as the notion that there is a cheat code we can apply to activate it and…
- + GodMode itself is the ultimate cheat code.
- + It DOES allow us access to settings not otherwise available to us…
- – It’s not cheating.
- = GodMode (fully aware we weren’t the first to put the words together and capitalize them separately…)
Leaving us with a term of our choosing with a clarified definition that suits our use case.
Get it?
Precision & Clarity.
We call it GodMode… when we understand exactly what it does and how it actually works, we can use it as intended and unlock all of our settings… allowing us to change or “adjust” as we call it, any of our “programs” by doing so at the source code level…
Now, the only responsible thing for us to do is crack open the system and turn off all the “admin” settings… allowing us full access to the Source Code to apply foundational changes as we please… and it’s not even cheating, simply understanding the rules and how they work.
The best part? Knowing how to do this and DOING it makes it look to others like we’re playing a game… we become the ones they say make “It” look easy. Better than that, though, being and having it the way we want becomes fun and less like a slog up a mountain carrying a backpack full of big rocks…
Shall we?
PS It’s so simple we tend to miss it.
The term “cockpit” comes from the Old English words “cock” and “swain.” “Cock” is a term for a small boat, and “swain” means servant.
A “cockswain” is a boat servant. The steering compartment of smaller boats where the cockswain sat became known as the cockpit.
The term “cockpit” first appeared in the 1500s as the term for the arena where roosters were forced to fight each other in cockfights.
These arenas were usually dug into the ground to prevent the roosters from fleeing. In the 1700s, the Royal Navy used the term “cockpit” to refer to the area where the coxswain, or ship’s pilot, was stationed.
The coxswain is the person in charge of a boat, especially its navigation and steering. Dude… yer a coxswain!!! LMAO
The term “cockpit” is also used to refer to the enclosed space where the pilot sits in an aircraft or where the driver sits in a racing car.↩The Bajau people, also known as “Sea Nomads,” are the first known humans to adapt to diving genetically. They have developed larger spleens through natural selection, which allows them to dive to great depths. The Bajau have lived at sea for hundreds of years and can reportedly hold their breath for 13 minutes. They have evolved remarkable adaptations that enable them to stay underwater for long periods of time.
The Bajau have traversed the seas in houseboats for over 1,000 years, hunting for food by free diving with spears. They have developed 25 genes that differ from both farmers and a large earlier study of Han Chinese. One such gene, PDE10A, has been shown to affect thyroid activity in mice, affecting spleen size.↩
